From Hamilton, Ontario, Joshua Weresch is a singer-songwriter who plays piano and sings. "My songs are full of characters who have and are suffering, who have lost and are regaining the only imaginable thing, hope. More than any other thing, I hope that my songs can allow us to see one another clearer, to see that someone who remains a mystery hidden beneath the shadows and confusions of this age," he states. "To put it simply," he continues, "music must create concern."

In 2008, he released his first record, From Shipwreck, recorded entirely in his, his wife's, and daughter's living-room, on his maternal grand-mother's 110-year-old piano. Tradition, place, and history continually inform his songs, lending weight to his first record's exploration of the challenges of personal and civic relationships. Greyowl Point noted his deep voice, its control and expressive emotions, his folk-oriented lyrics, and classical training on the piano (Michael Thomas, "Review," 27 Jun 2011). Bruce Mowat, booker for the 2008 It's Your Festival, said that Joshua is a talented young artist, in touch with the day-to-day world. Noted songwriter, Jon Brooks--winner of, among other awards, the 2010 International Songwriting Competition--said, "Joshua Weresch is a talented songwriter and shares the vision of all great songwriters: a view to moral purpose and to healing."

Joshua's next record, Ordinary Time, promises to move forward from tradition, place, and history to an examination of the human spirit in the face of purposeless work and sorrow. He is, at the moment, touring occasionally, preparing to release his next record in the form of a song-book, and enjoying fatherhood.
